Welcome to Wednesday

Practice makes perfect.  As a coach, I break every movement down to the fundamentals.  When learning a new skill, I’ll break that movement down to the very beginning.  My athletes do not progress until the previous movement is mastered.  I take that same philosophy with my every day life.

Dose of the Daily Word

1 Peter 1:10-12

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Be Holy

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”[a]

Reflection of the Word

The Spirit of Christ is another name for the Holy Spirit.  Before Jesus left his ministry on earth to return to heaven, he promised to send the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to teach, help, and guide his followers.  The Holy Spirit would tell them all about Jesus and would reveal his glory.  The Old Testament prophets, writing under the Holy Spirit’s inspiration, described the coming of the Messiah.  The New Testament apostles, through the inspiration of the same Spirit, preached the crucified and risen Lord.

The imminent return of Christ should motivate us to live for him.  This means being mentally alert, disciplined (“fully sober”), and focused (“set your hope”).  Are you ready to meet Christ, living as God’s obedient child?

  1. Reflection: Sometimes I find myself thinking, "If I only KNEW what was going to happen, I could X,Y,Z; and life would be SO much easier!” We all wish we knew the future and what it held, luckily for us there is a way to "know the future" without having to think "if only". When we listen intently to Jesus, he speaks to us! God gave us his Holy Spirit so that our minds don’t HAVE to know it all! When we put our FULL trust in Him and build a relationship with Him, we can be rest assured that He will guide our paths and reveal His glory to us; just like he did for the prophets! I know it’s easier said then done, but when we are obedient, God promises to show us visions beyond even what the angels can see! Isn't that something!?! As I read this today I was taken back to the song “As I Am Holy” by: Jon Thurlow. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86XpdGWO0p4) I hadn’t heard it in a while, but the lyrics came to me as though I had just heard it yesterday! Maybe that was just Holy Spirit's way of comforting my soul. ?
